Unearth Introduce: Owen Vidler

Updated: Nov 23, 2022

Hello there. My name’s Owen, and I’m proud to say that I am now a member of the Unearth Marketing team!

Recently graduating university and completing my degree in Marketing & Management was a major milestone for me, and the next logical step was to find a job in the cycling industry that I was passionate about – once the time came to transition into the big bad world, as if the stars aligned, I found Unearth.

Hot off the press, I’m eager to get stuck in with getting to know clients and working in the field. As Junior Marketing Executive my primary responsibilities are research, copywriting and taking care of social media, but I’ll be dipping my toes in and helping out wherever I can. Getting to know Jack, Andrew and Anne has been an absolute pleasure so far and even though I’ve only just started, I’m excited to learn and grow with the company!

Growing up I was introduced to the idea of a bicycle fairly early on, with my dad being a long-time cyclist who likes to do crazy endurance events like Paris-Brest-Paris. At the age of 17, I started working at my local bike shop (Handsome Bicycles in Hastings) where I gained a solid insight into the cycling industry, and it taught me valuable skills in customer service, teamwork and product knowledge.

Weirdly enough, I only started riding a bike properly once I got to university. After a year of eating too much pesto pasta and a severe lack of physical activity I had put on a fair bit of weight, so decided it was time for a change. 2 years later, I have never been more passionate about something and I’m infinitely grateful that this sport has enabled me to meet such a friendly and supportive group of people – cycling has truly changed my life, and it was sitting right under my nose the whole time! Right now I’m fitter than I’ve ever been and going forward I want to continue pushing my fitness, participating and improving on times at local time trials and hill climbs, and perhaps even giving some endurance events a go – although I’m not sure I fancy doing the Atlas Mountain Race like Jack just yet!

Life off the bike is relatively simple – I enjoy spending time with family and friends, going to the cinema, playing guitar, listening to music and even play video games from time to time. I know, it's pretty hard to imagine how I fit all that into 24 hours ...

If you want to contact me regarding work, or want to ask me how I maintain such an adrenaline-fuelled lifestyle, feel free to shoot me an email: owen@weareunearth.com.
